The Living Zero Home Tour
Saving energy, money and the planet...One House at a Time

“There's no doubting that improving energy efficiency is the low-hanging fruit for both saving money and reducing carbon emissions. It's true you can start right in your own home, but if you don't know where to begin, where to turn? Well, the Living Zero Home Tour has the answer.” - TreeHugger

The Living Zero Home Tour was a huge success! The Tour reached over ten million people demonstrating how the use of energy efficient products, eco-friendly building techniques and innovative technology can save money, energy and the planet in your home or apartment.

The home included a full-sized functional kitchen, living room /media room and utility room. It traveled over 13,500 miles from July through November, 2009, visited 14 states and stopped at 15 event sites. The Tour stops included seven NASCAR races; Taste of Chicago; Albuquerque International Balloon Festival; Denver Zoo; Sea World in San Diego; Wyndham PGA Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina; Ohio State Fair in Columbus, Ohio; and the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

In the first week of July, the Living Zero Home began its tour. It will travel to festivals, state fairs, sporting events, city zoos, and theme parks continuing through November. Look for the Tour coming to your city!

While the Tour was in New York City, it was featured on Good Morning America (GMA) during four segments as 3.8 million people watched Sam Champion highlight simple steps that can be taken to save energy, money and the environment. Besides GMA and Discovery Channel’s Planet Green, the Tour’s media partner, the Tour attracted dozens of news stories in all Tour markets and on all major networks, including CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN and Fox. Furthermore, the Tour was highlighted on countless websites and blogs including Treehugger and CNET. Over 58,000 people physically toured the home and over 100,000 people visited the Living Zero website.

The Tour was made possible thanks to the generous support of The Department of Energy, All American Homes, General Electric, Wyndham, Planet Green, State Water Heaters, Chevy Volt Electric Car, Best Buy, MGM Mirage, Excel Energy, Georgia Power, ComEd, and the Salt River Project. The Tour demonstrated how a private/public partnership can have a dramatic impact in reaching the public and providing access, knowledge and a greater understanding of energy efficiency. Moreover, the Tour educated consumers about how energy efficiency can save money by utilizing tax credits, appliance and utility rebates and construction incentives.

Be on the lookout for the 2010 Living Zero Home Tour – it may be coming to a city near you!
